Seed Rooms : East and West

Central College Art Gallery, Hcc, Houston, TX
2006

Installation Inspired My Artist Residency in China

The Seed Rooms: East and West takes place in a college art gallery transformed to look like a college classroom.  The East room is a biology lab, the West room is a lecture hall. My artist statement is viewable on the submenu saying More About Seed Rooms, under Invitationals.

East Room

What was known about the world in the East Room was felt through the senses- smelling, touching, and feeling. The plastic domes were lifted when the curious wanted to experience more understanding of nature. The gallery was closed a week for spring break, so each form was covered in plastic a week before and remained on the forms in order to maintain humidity and water levels in their pores.

West Room

The West Room had a teacher's desk.  What was known in the West Room for study was determined through observation and writing. not the senses.  The West room contained photographic prints of chaotic images altered by the viewers position in front of them.  Below is a digital gif experiment I produced in the process of building out the East and West Seed Room exhibition. What remains of the series of 24" x 30" posters are under my bed at home for anyone interested in seeing them.
