Four Lilys are four imagined portraits of my great-great-great-grandmother Lily. Lily was born a slave on a plantation in Tennessee. There are no photographs of her so I have created 100 imagined portraits of Lily. Her history is part of my history and also part of the history of the southern United States. Our history is the history of humanity and the intersections of peoples. Along with the image on RoadsignUSA there will be a performance/installation called "Everyone is a Shade of Brown" by myself and Fredia Mitchell at a date TBA at Little Woodrows. 100 imagined portraits of Lily can be seen at Koelsch Gallery from December 8, 2011 - January 14, 2012 in the exhibition "Absence."
