Central Fine Arts Gallery

Artwork by June Woest - an installation of photographs and sculpture

March 7, 2007 - April 5, 2007

The Seed Rooms: East and West aims to heighten awareness of global themes involving food and famine, commerce and science. Installed in two rooms of Central College's art gallery, The Seed Rooms simulates learning centers for observation, study, and contemplation on the remnants of an agrarian society.

The East Room is intended to be the more meditative of the two rooms, exhibiting in eery silence, the condensation dripping on plastic terrariums covering wet clay rocks and vegetables. In The West Room, viewers actively engage with Western style commercial advertising posters of heirloom seed packets portraying genetically grafted plant life.

Woest's installations create sensory associations and exchanges with nature. Her work reflects on our changing relationship with the domesticated landscape and the cultural, environmental forces affecting that connection.
